DETROIT LIFE LINER NOTES

November 28th, 2009 by johnsinclair

Among the few white Americans who made actual physical and social contact with the black inhabitants of its city center, the bohemian sector in Detroit quickly learned that racism was pretty much a one-way street and soon found its denizens forming fast friendships and strong working relationships with the people around them. In the bohemian art world people were judged and deemed worthy on the basis of the quality of their work and the nature of their personalities, the exact criteria almost universally applied throughout African America, so it was easy to begin to see eye to eye as fellow humans and coexist in unaccustomed peace and harmony.

I’m celebrating the first ever episode of the No Cover Radio Show with a special program of music recorded for the “No Cover’s First 14″ sampler Cd. The songs featured here are from 14 different Cd’s released by the No Cover Productions Blues label. These first 14 are from the very start of the label in the mid 90′s and the feature a great list of bands from that period, many of which are still performing today, and some of which have since passed on. I hope you enjoy this cross section of blues history.
