I found my way to your site and archive because NPR “Fresh Air” airing here in SF area on KQED FM 88.5 had today Terry Gross and Melissa Leo, an actress on the HBO series “Treme.” Their discussion of John Goodman’s character on the show reminded me of Stevenson Palfi, who collaborated with John Sinclair on some shows back in the day.

Ok, thanks for that. I guess it must have been a Fess record — I am thinking it was (I am sussing it here in real time) on Dancing Cat, George Winston’s label, maybe “Rock N’ Roll Gumbo” on cd, or somehow it was on the back of James Booker “Junco Partner” (on Hannibal).
And was it really 2003 that Mr. Sinclair was at SXSW music conference in Austin, not 2009 as I said below?
Anyways, thanks for all the great tunes and hard work. for the music and musicians.
Maybe I will try to order it on Alligator, if that info is still current. By the way, Allen Toussant in January, 2010 did a beautiful job on PBS “Austin City Limits” (which I do watch sometimes)

I heard a few minutes today of a Terry Gross interview with an actress who plays on the “Treme” tv show and it reminded me of Stevenson Palfi. Searching more info on Mr. Palfi led me to this website and this post.

I saw Mr. Sinclair speak as SXSW in 2009, I think it was.

I never met Stevenson Palfi but did have one long phone conversation with him, in 2002. I got his number from the back of a James Booker cd. At the time I was representing as management a NOLA musician and catching up with what had come before. I hope I get the time and inspiration to learn more about Detroit music.

I haven’t seen the tv show — they were discussing the fact that John Goodman’s character left the show after one season. It seems the writers of the show did borrow something from Stevenson’s story, although there is another cultural figure that they also represented in their composite character.
